Introduction to roman math:
Roman math is a symbol .It is used to represent a number. (Our digits 0-9 are often called as Arabic numerals.) In learning of roman math are written as the combinations of the seven letters.
Those seven letters are,
I =1 L=50
V = 5 C=100 M=1000
X=10 D=500
Note:
If a lesser numbers follow larger numbers, then numbers are added.
If a lesser number precedes bigger number, then the smaller number is subtracted from the larger.
Example 1:
Addition of smaller number-roman math:
How to add 5 and 2 in roman math?
Solution:
Here Arabic number 5 will be written in the form of roman math as V and the another number as 2 it will be written in the form (roman math) of II the addition will be shown as in the below,
V+II=VII
(If we are adding 5 and 2 means we get the answer as 7, so here the 7 will be written in the form of roman math as VII)
Example 2:
Addition of larger number-roman math:
How to add 2 and 48 in roman math?
Solution:
Here we are doing the operation as addition, first we have to convert the Arabic numerals into the roman number then we do that operation as addition,2 will be written in the form of roman number as II and 48 will be written as in the form of roman number as XLVIII. (here the bigger number is L=50 and the lesser number is X so the lesser number proceeds the larger number so the smaller number is subtracted from the larger number 50-10=40 so 40 will be written as XL)
Then we do the operation as addition in roman math ,II+XLVIII here we have to rearrange the roman math numbers in the descending order as XLVIIIII,Here IIIII will be written as V then the XLVV now we have VV so we will rewrite them as X ,XLX here XL is represents for 40 and X is represents for 10 if we add that means we get the final answer as L.
Practice problem-roman math:
1) Add XIII + LVIII?
Answer: LXXI
2) Add XLIV + XI?
Answer: LV
