Problem Solving Using Decimals

Introduction to problem solving using decimal:

A decimal number is defined as a number that has a whole number part and a fractional whole number part.  For example, the decimal number 536.175 has a whole part of 536 and a fractional whole part of 175.  The '.' is called the decimal point.

In general, the given numbers to the left of the decimal point produce the whole part of the number, and the numbers to the right of the decimal point produce the fractional whole part of the number.

Examples of problem solving using decimal:

Problem solving using decimal example 1:

Add the following decimal numbers

6.45+8.26+7.15

Solution:

We are going add the above decimal numbers.

Given, 6.45+8.26+7.15

In first, add the fractional whole part and then add the whole number part.

Here the fractional whole parts are 45, 26 and 15.

Now add the above fractional whole parts.

That is, 45+26+15= 96

Next  add the whole number part.

Here the whole number parts are 6, 8, and 7.

That is, 6+8+7=21

Now we are joining the whole number part and fractional whole number part.

Therefore the sum  decimal result is 21.96

Answer: 21.96

Problem solving using decimal example 2:

Subtract the following decimal numbers

16.85-12.42

Solution:

We are going to subtract the above decimal numbers.

Given, 16.85-12.42

In first, subtract the fractional whole part and then subtract the whole number part.

Here the fractional whole parts are 85 and 42.

Now subtract the above fractional whole parts.

That is, 85-42=43

Next  subtract the whole number part.

Here the whole number parts are 16 and 12.

That is, 16-12=4

Now we are joining the whole number part and fractional whole number part.

Therefore, the adding the decimal result is 4.12

Answer: 4.12

Problem solving using decimal example 3:

Convert the following decimal number into fraction: 2.56

Solution:

Given fraction number is 2.56

Here 2.56 have two decimal parts. Thai is two zero (100).

Therefore, we get 256/100

Simplify this, we get the final answer.

Answer: 64/25

Problem solving using decimal example 4:

Convert the following percentage into decimal: 50%

Solution:

Given percentage value is 50%

Percentage mans divide by 100.

Therefore, 50% =50/100

after simplification

50/100=1/2

Answer: 0.5
