Online Math Problem Solver - Profit and Loss

When we solve this profit and loss math problem we should understand some rules of this problem.

Rules of solving profit and loss problems:

Cost Price (CP) : The price at which a man buys his goods is called the cost price.

Selling Price (SP) : The price at which a man sells his goods is called the Selling price.

When SP > CP the man makes profit.

When CP > SP the man makes loss.

Profit = SP – CP

Loss = CP –SP

Profit % = Profit / CP x 100

Loss% = Loss / CP x 100

Examples of the profit and loss problems:

(1)   Mr. John bought a TV for Rs. 5899 and sold it for Rs. 7000 Find his profit or loss percent.

Solution: CP = Rs.5800    SP = RS. 7000

Since SP > CP

Profit = SP – CP

= 7000 – 5800 = Rs. 1200

Profit % = 1200 / 5800 x 100

= 20.69 %

(2)   Jessica has a cycle worth Rs. 1800 and she wants to sell it at a profit of Rs.220. What should cycle selling price be?

Solution: CP = Rs.1800, P = Rs. 220

SP = CP + P

= 1800 + 220 = Rs.2020

Selling price of cycle is Rs. 2020 Ans.
