Solving Linear Equation Using Graphical Representation

Linear equation can have one or more variables. Common form of a linear equation in the two variables x and y is y = mx + b, where m and b designate constant.

And mx - y + b = 0 represent a equation of straight line. Any linear equation can also be solved using graphical representation of straight line as shown below.

Problem : Solve and graph 2x + y = 8

Solution : Given equation is 2x + y = 8

So y = 8 - 2x

To plot a graph let us consider a range of x values and calculate respective y values.

x- 3- 2- 101234
y14121086420

Graph representing above data,

Scale : on x axis 1cm = 1 unit
on y axis 1cm = 2 units
